Super Saiyan among Super Saiyans
![]()
|
So the popular name for this iteration of Gohan has changed over time amongst fan groups. It used to be Mystic Gohan at first. Then Ultimate Gohan gained traction. Some people here like the term Fantastic Gohan. I've heard the term Post-Ritual Gohan passed around. I suggest the new name: Potential-Realized Gohan or Realized Gohan. Beyond this, what's your preferred name for Mystic/Ultimate/Fantastic/Post-Ritual/Potential-Realized Gohan? |

I use Mystic, Ultimate, Post-Ritual or Chou. Which term I use and when more depends on the type of fan that I'm taking to. A "Dubbie" wouldn't get the Chou term, therefore I'd use the Mystic or Ultimate with them. I think I might have been the first one to coin the term Post-Ritual Gohan. I have a bit of pride in these coins considering that I also believe that I was the one to first coin the term Mastered Super Saiyan back during my MFG days. I don't remember anyone else using it before I did on a thread when I was known as SaiyajinPerfection. Now that term is used all over the place. Chou Gohan is the official term used for him, which roughly translates as "Ultimate". Other terms I use for my own reference is Uninhibited Gohan, Unleashed Gohan, or Gohan Unhinged. |

Post-Ritual or Post-Unlock are the most accurate plot-wise, but I just go for Ultimate because it's faster to type.

I prefer either mystic or ultimate but I usually use mystic. Is there any guidebooks or anything that say "mystic" or ultimate" or are they purely fan made names?

Did they use ultimate because they heard the fans say ultimate or is that what they dubbed him? |

Does it really matter? We could call him "The Amazing Gohan" and people would still get it |

Daizenshuu #2 labels Gohan at this point as "saikyo no senshi," which means "mightiest/ultimate warrior," from which we get the shortened "Ultimate Gohan," which is what I go about calling him. It's not necessarily meant to be a special label beyond the notion that he was, for all intents and purposes, the strongest hero at the time. That didn't last long, since Boo absorbed Gotenks, Gohan himself, and then Vegetto showed up, so... yeah. Hence perhaps why this particular guide only labels the form as appearing in Vol. 41. After that, he wasn't the "mightiest warrior" anymore. One of the other Daizenshuu volumes, #10 I believe (a supplementary anime-centric volume which mostly exists to cover the later movies which hadn't premiered yet when the prior volumes were released), has a chart of different forms of Super Saiyan, and gives Gohan his own entry off to the side labeled "Gohan-type. Both entries talk about the basic stuff we already know. Dormant power drawn out, stronger than Super Saiyan 2, stronger than Gotenks, no strain on his body like with Super Saiyan. I'm almost positive that the label "Mystic Gohan" is just an old fan-term that became popular. While it probably comes from the nature of how he got so powerful, I don't like it because it's potentially misleading — it could imply that Gohan himself or his powers are somehow magical, when that's not shown to be the case. He's just a helluva lot stronger. Edited by Kaboom, Apr 14 2014, 01:17 AM.
